The profile picture settings on macOS (Sequoia 15.3.2) seems to be a complete mess. There are two simple things I have tried to do with my mac account profile picture, neither seem to work properly.
- Choose a memoji profile picture and a pose (e.g. warthog with exploding head) such that on my login screen I see the posed memoji, not the animated one.
Currently, when I choose a memoji and a pose in the profile picture menu and go to the login screen, it just shows the animated version of the memoji I chose. After restarting the mac the login initially shows the picture I chose but if I go back to the log in screen again after logging in it’s back to the animated one.
On logging in, the picture I chose will show briefly.
- Choose a picture from Finder as my profile picture.
I find a picture in Finder and drag it onto the profile picture in the menu. It appears in the preview and I hit save. When I view the log in screen the picture has now been zoomed in to the top left corner for some reason. When I go to the settings menu to try and fix this, the rest of the picture has been cropped so I can’t even zoom back out. Restarting does not change this.
Also If I try to use a non-square photo then it immediately crops it to a square centred at the top left with no option to focus on a different portion of the picture.
These are obviously minor aesthetic issues but it’s baffling to me that macOS falls flat on its face when trying to do these very simple tasks. Has anyone encountered the same issue and found a solution?
