HFS+ volume (known computer admin/disk/FileVault passwords) re-formatted under new APFS volume name/unknown password vs. partioned (no HFS detected in recovery tools). Couldn’t unlock volume to start computer setup/migration process (no recovery key) nor reproduce visually buggy key inputs displaying during encrypted APFS “partition addition,” only shows password dot inputs.
Original data volume name readable in data recovery tool, stating APFS in/grouped to locked system volume. None of the commands/software appear to function w/out unlocking volume to mount/read. Target Disk Mode can’t read locked volumes, correct?
Remaining 3 untested solutions could use trained eyes or other creative solutions, please (willing to pay):
-
Posts 1 / 2 suggest there’s a way to delete setup/promote admin user w/ correct commands (inadvertently deleted Config.plist, partition map, and some fs0:/efi/oc/files and all fs0:/System files in boot efi)?
-
One OS can reset password for any HFS volume, but no clear method to convert APFS to HFS w/out erasing data (Paragon’s converter depreciated since ’20 errors w/ zero code/msg). This OS Disk Utility appears to have a convert to read/write disk image option, but also errors (falsely claims no space).

While I have all non-encrypted system volumes (Preboot, Update, Recovery, VM, update install logs, allegedly “AdminUserRecoveryInfo.plist” etc.), access to 3 Macs across hardware components/all OS’es, unclear if restoring EFI metadata files etc. into mountable/visible, non-OS/non-data volume folders would enable reinstalling OS/reformatting that volume to HFS…must be one sure way that’ll prevent data loss?
