I am using an Apple laptop, and I desire to only use the external monitor, along with external keyboard and mouse. I have noticed that I can only do this if the lid is shut, and if it is connected to a power source, which I am fine with.
Sometimes, there are power fluctuations that cause the Mac to stop receiving electricity for a few seconds. In that case, the external monitor turns black, even if the monitor still has energy, because the Mac has stopped receiving electricity. This may happen 1-5 times per hour for no more than 5 seconds.
In these cases, it is very inconvenient that the first thing I will see on my screen is a password prompt. Because I use a fingerprint reader, my password is very long and very inconvenient to type. However, also, because the lid is closed, the fingerprint reader is also inconvenient to use because I have to open the lid, and the monitor may get in the way. Even if it takes 10 seconds, it is rather inconveniencing because I don’t face this issue on non-Apple devices.
Is there a way to make the Mac use the external monitor all the time and not have to lock, or at least not have to retype my password?
If I change any settings, they should only apply to when I am using the external monitor, not all the time.
It seems that I am using the features in the way Apple intended, so this might have been an oversight from their part.
