How to make sleep schedule sync between iPhone and Apple Watch?

I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.1 and Apple Watch Series 9 running watchOS 26.0.2. I have a sleep schedule set up daily with sleep focus. If I go to the Clock app on my iPhone and change my sleep alarm (not the schedule, just the alarm for tomorrow), my watch won’t sync the updated sleep schedule and will leave sleep focus mode based on my original sleep schedule, not the updated one for the day. How can I ensure my Apple Watch sleep schedule updates when I modify the alarm for tomorrow in the iPhone Clock app?

Things I verified:

  • iPhone Settings > Focus > “Share Across Devices” is on
  • iPhone Settings > Focus > Sleep > I’ve tried “Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing” both on and off, doesn’t make a difference
  • iPhone Settings > Focus > Sleep > “Allow Notifications” has “None allowed” for both People and Apps

In case it matters, this started happening when I upgraded from an older iPhone 13 Pro Max to this new iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Apple Watch was paired to the old iPhone but during setup of the new one it paired the watch to the new iPhone.

Because the sleep focus doesn’t sync what happens is my watch will vibrate for notifications while I’m still trying to sleep, as long as they’re after the original alarm time, but even if they’re before the updated alarm time.
