CNN and Kalshi have announced a partnership that would see the prediction market’s data incorporated into the news brand’s TV, digital, and social journalism.
Executives from CNN and Kalshi have confirmed to Axios that the news brand has partnered with Kalshi to bring the market’s data to its various journalism channels around the world. This is Kalshi’s first major news partnership, but not the first time that the prediction market has dipped its toe into current events, with contracts in place for major cultural and political events.
Kalshi CEO and co-founder Tarek Mansour told the news outlet that the focus of the partnership will be focused on allowing CNN to interpret what could happen in the future, rather than past or current events. Notably, while the focus is on CNN now, he mentioned other newsrooms and journalists, suggesting that Kalshi has its eyes on similar partnerships with other news brands as well.
How will the news partnership between CNN and Kalshi work?
In practice, CNN will have access to Kalshi’s data through an API that updates in real time. As well as being featured on CNN through a live data feed in a way that sounds similar to tracking stocks and shares, CNN journalists can also use that data to discuss news predictions. Topics up for discussion include politics, news, culture, and even the weather.
CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten will take the lead on the new partnership, using real-time insights from Kalshi in his reporting on air, both on traditional CNN TV channels and its new streaming subscription service.
There have been zero reputable polls over the last year where Pete Hegseth has had a net positive favorable rating. ZERO. Every one has had him negative.
Per Kalshi, the chance Hegseth is the first to leave Trump's cabinet has skyrocketed since Friday… Going from 18% to 35%. pic.twitter.com/sI4qYIlagQ

CNN is not paying for the partnership, but it is exclusive for now, meaning the news brand is not working with any other prediction market data providers.
“CNN is renowned for accurate, fact-based journalism and analysis that helps audiences understand what’s happening,” said CNN SVP of strategic partnerships and business development Sam Felix. “By partnering with Kalshi to showcase prediction market data in our programming, CNN journalists will have a fresh, data-based angle from which to explore and better understand the world around us.”
This comes at a time of good news for Kalshi, with the prediction market recently announcing it had more than doubled its company valuation in less than two months. As prediction markets like Kalshi continue to explode, the question about how they can be used in politics and current affairs becomes ever more prevalent.
