My 1st generation iPhone SE died about a year ago. My 1-year new 3rd generation SE has many more Contacts lists than I expect. Other than “All Contacts”, I see five lists.
At the very top, I see:
Under iPhone, I see:
- (1) All iPhone
- (2) iPhone Global Address List
Under AkrutoSync Exchange, I see:
- (3) All AkrutoSync Exchange
- (4) AkrutoSync Exchange Global Address List
Under iCloud, I see:
I assume that (0) combines all lists? It’s the only list in which I see duplicate entries.
Is (1) supposed to combine all lists under the iPhone section? There is only one other list, so that means “All iPhone” is identical to “iPhone Global Address List.
Similarly, is (3) supposed to combine all lists under the AkrutoSync Exchange section? Again, there is only one other list, so that means that “All AkrutoSync Exchange” is identical to “AkrutoSync Exchange Global Address List”.
In the past, I’ve tried having only 1 list — one that synced to a Exchange interface on my home Wi-Fi network. The Exchange interface is presented to the iPhone by an AkrutoSync app running on my laptop. I tried to ensure that I had no list that sync’d with any other cloud.
I wonder if the upgrade to 3rd generation SE caused the lists to proliferate? Apple technical care did something behind the scenes to enable the transfer of all content from the old phone to the new one. I was on the phone with them and I didn’t understand what they did. Frankly, it didn’t seem like they fully understood either.
I’ve had a year to modify details of individual contacts. What is an efficient way to browse lists in a pairwise fashion in order to reconcile the differences?
Once done, I intend to eliminate all redundant lists. I anticipate that this means keeping (4), and if (3) is merely an aggregation oof all lists under AkrutoSync Exchange, then that means (3) will stick around as well [(and it will be identical to (4)].
