We are trying to move photos from an ancient Samsung tablet, onto a new iPad, and are using a Windows PC as an go-between.
Is it safe to use “sync” in the iTunes app or Apple Devices app on PC (or Mac), as a one-off transfer of photos to the iPad, which is then turned off? Or can this cause future data loss in some circumstances? If so, which circumstances?
Intro to syncing in iTunes on PC
Syncing means adding items on your computer to a device. You can use iTunes to sync the items in your iTunes library to your device, as well as photos, contacts and other info.
I do understand that if you remove photos from your computer (and then sync again), the photos will be removed from the iPad.
Here are some examples of circumstances which might (or might not) become relevant:
-
Will the added photos be immediately deleted from your iPad if you turn off syncing photos from your computer to iPad?
-
Will the added photos be automatically deleted at a later time, if you later set up sync from your computer to your iPad again?
-
Will the added photos be automatically deleted at a later time, if a different computer is set up to sync photos to your iPad?
-
When you use “sync” to add photos to an iPad, are the added photos backed up to iCloud as if those photos had been taken using the iPad camera app? Or instead, will it cause data loss when someone 1) sets up iCloud backup on the iPad and then 2) relies on iCloud backup to backup all the photos on the iPad, when a device is lost, broken or stolen?
